The Curtis High School Association of Alumni and Friends (CHSAAF) is for all graduates of any and all years and their friends. It grew out of the 75th Anniversary Jubilee of the school held in 1979 and was established in 1984; the Borough President issued a Proclamation in honor of the anniversary. During the Jubilee celebration, many alumni were found through research done by the Curtis PTA. These alumni became the nucleus of the Association. The Association was not established solely as a social organization, but "to preserve the history of Curtis High School, to support the school in achieving its objectives and to stand as an example for future generations of alumni by assisting whenever possible in ongoing school activities".
The Board of Directors consists of 15 members. At our
annual meeting, June 25, 2012, we elected 2 new directors and re-elected
6 directors. Directors are elected to 2 or 3 year terms. 4 directors retired.
For over 25 years the Association has been a friend to Curtis High School, helping in many areas of need by funding where the now defunct Board of Education did not. Each year a class banner is presented to the incoming freshman class for use during their four years as students. It also presents 4 alumni achievement awards to members of the graduating class and recognizes student achievements by presenting memorial awards named for distinguished Curtis alumni, at the annual Awards Assembly. The Association lends a personal hand whenever possible.
In 2000, an Alumni Hall of Fame was established to honor
distinguished graduates of our alma mater. The induction ceremony takes
place in the school's Feldman Hall in the Fall of each year; this year
April 28, 2013. To date, we have inducted 85 graduates into the CHSAAF
Hall of Fame.
(send us a bio of any grads you think we should honor for their achievements and/or service to the community)
The CURTIS ALUMNI MAGAZINE is mailed quarterly to members throughout the world-wherever they are. It contains articles about active Alumni, happenings at Curtis, deceased Alumni, member contributions and graduate liaison reports send them in by the 15th of the previous month. The newsletter is now published from Curtis at a greatly reduced cost through the head of the Journalism Institute Program, Cadence Turner, and her students. News articles and liaison reports may be sent by email to the editor, Inez Palladino at impalladinocurtis@si.rr.com. Please make the subject: "liaison report for class of (insert your year)"
. Liaison reports need to be received by February 11-Spring/May 11-Summer/August 11-Fall/November 11-Winter.
A "Reunion of all years"', our prime fundraiser to
benefit the school and students, is held annually in the Fall (this year
Oct 20th); some classes have their mini-reunions at this event. This
occasion presents an opportunity for alumni to revisit Curtis and take a
walk "down memory lane". Let us know if you are planning a reunion for
your class and we will publish all pertinent information in the
newsletter and add it to our website.
Membership applications are in every newsletter and on this website. |
